Take the First Step is a Distance Learning Course and optional City & Guilds Qualification for the Bathroom Industry.

The course has been created to introduce you to the skills necessary to install sanitary fittings and design sanitary accommodation, so that this type of installation, maintenance and design work can be carried out competently and professionally.

Each module is packed with knowledge, information and advice, and concludes with a short multi-choice assessment for you to and return to us for marking and feedback, before receiving the next module, Etc.

The first part of the course consists of four self-study Modules:

Installation and Maintenance of Sanitary Appliances

Hot and Cold Water and Discharge Piping Systems

Sanitary Accommodation Layout and Design

Water Regulations & Water Saving Products

On successful completion of the self-study modules you will receive a personalised Record of Achievement. Then, if desired, you can put your knowledge into practice to obtain a City & Guilds Certificate:

C&G 6032 in Sanitary Accommodation Installation maintenance and Design

This is by means of a short practical training and assessment at an Assessment Centre.

The cost of the four Armitage Shanks/Ideal Standard sponsored self-study Modules is £60 and this includes delivery to you, marking the summary questions and issue of a personalised Record of Achievement.

Please note that our Shower Design and Installation and Special Care Kitchen and Bathroom Design for the Less Able modules complement and extend this theory course.

Intended user group: New-Entrants and mature students in the bathroom and plumbing, industries. Also for multi-skilling existing building craft occupations and maintenance staff in local authority and housing association direct labour organisations, as well as bathroom showroom and installation personnel, self-builders and people interested in sanitary plumbing.
Indication of level: Takes people through from the basic's through to advanced design, and also useful to people on NVQ level 2 and level 3 courses in plumbing, etc.
Time guide: Variable time required depending on the individual learner, typically 12 to 15 hours per module.
